President Obama signs S. 1275 into law, creating National Foundation on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition—BHPI3 played a key role
12.22.2010  Today, President Barack Obama signed S. 1275 into law.  The law creates the Congressionally-chartered National Foundation on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition Establishment Act.  The Foundation will bring private sector resources to promote sports, activity and good nutrition, and combat obesity crisis. The Foundation will also work in conjunction with and provide funds to the President’s Council on Physical Fitness, Sports and Nutrition.

The Foundation was the idea of former Congressman Tom McMillen, who previously served as the Co-Chair of the President’s Council and played in the NBA.

“Tom has been working to get the Foundation created for fifteen years.  This year he asked us to help him get it done,” said BHPI3’s Rob Housman.  “Passing anything these days in Washington is no small task.  We built a national coalition, launched a digital and social media campaign, worked closely with the White House and Sen. Warner and Cong. Sarbannes, and pounded the halls of Congress,” he said.  “We are extremely proud that the Foundation is now a reality and will play a major role in helping our nation’s children,” he added.

“Now the next phase kicks in,” said Housman, who also serves as Co-Vice Chair of the Coalition. “We intend to have funds waiting for the Foundation when it first meets. We will be reaching out to corporate and philanthropic leaders and asking for their support. And, we will be looking to develop ideas for creative partnerships with the private sector for the Foundation to consider,” he said.
If your organization wants to get involved, please contact us,” Housman added.

BHPI3’s Varsity Girls perform for troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and their families
12.14.2010  Today, The Varsity Girls performed for 650 troops returning from Afghanistan and their families.
“While we were performing we could see the looks in the eyes of the children as they waited for their fathers and mothers to return from the war.  It was incredible.  They were singing along, dancing, jumping,” said Varsity Girls’ Simone Cardoso.  “You can’t imagine what a Christmas present it was for us to be part of this amazing event,” the band’s Jillian Jensen added.  “I was so anxious and excited for the soldiers to walk through the door and I don’t even know them personally.

I can’t imagine how the families felt waiting. It was such a moving experience,” said band member Jiji Zucco. "It was such an honor to be able to perform for the families of men and women who have fought or are fighting for our country,” said the band’s Kimber-Lee Jacobsen.
The performance came in response to a last minute special request from the New England USO.

“On December 13, 2010, The Varsity Girls performed at the Jeffrey Coombs Memorial Christmas Dinner for 400 military families in Foxboro, Massachusetts,” said Jeff Gulko, who manages BHPI3’s role in the band and brand.  “The following day we received an urgent call from a representative of the New England USO who had heard the band the day before.  She asked if they could perform that evening at Camp Curtis Guild for a homecoming event for servicemembers from the Massachusetts Army National Guard.  The soldiers were returning home after a year in Afghanistan,” said Gulko.

“When the USO asked the band to perform for the families and returning troops just days before Christmas, all I could think of was the World War II era song ‘I’ll be home for Christmas,’” said BHPI3 Co-Chair Rob Housman.  “We only had a couple of hours and the base was a long drive away.  We immediately got the girls on the road.  There was no way we were going to miss this performance,” he added.

“As a result the band has now become an official partner of the USO and we will be doing a series of major performances and events for our troops,” Gulko said.  “We are planning on performing at the next homecoming in January and at the New England USO’s Memorial Day and Fourth of July events,” he added. “We spend a lot of time telling our clients about the value of corporate social responsibility and giving back,” said Housman.  “This was a perfect opportunity for us to walk the walk ourselves,” he said. The Varsity Girls are a fast emerging pop band that BHPI3 is a partner in and has helped launch as both a musical group and a great brand.  Read more about them at http://www.varsitygirlsmusic.com.

Book Hill Partners launches BHPI3
11.15.10  BHP has launched a new subsidiary, BHPI3, which will focus on strategic communications, public relations, marketing, branding, brand integration, and interactive and digital media.  “When we first launched Book Hill Partners three years ago we didn’t expect the considerable growth we have experienced in the public relations, branding and marketing sectors,” said Rick Moore, who will co-chair the new subsidiary.  “In order to focus our efforts and better serve our clients we decided it was time to concentrate resources in these areas,” Moore added.  “At the outset we will share resources with Book Hill, but the plan is to invest in and rapidly grow BHPI3,” he said.

“Our new BHPI3 brand underscores our roots and ties to the parent company—Book Hill Partners, or BHP,” said Rob Housman, the firm’s other co-chair.  “At the same time it underscores our unique approach.  The ‘i3’ stands for ideas, innovations and impact.  These three things are what we focus on, what we stress and what we promise,” he said.
